So, how do you get started in your own home based affiliate business? First, you need to decide what your main purpose will be. Do you want to create a shopping mall site, a coupon site or do you already have a content site and want to make some money with it? Do your homework! It's important to choose the right merchant partner so look for reputable affiliate programs and not just the highest paying affiliate programs. Does the merchant site look professional? Would you buy from their site, if not your visitors may not either. Are they a good fit for your site?

Research your competition. See who your competition is, see what works and doesn't work. How did they integrate their affiliate links into their site? Search for words and terms you plan to use and study the results. One great feature of the Internet is you can find information on just about everything, if you know how to search. Find out how to do SEO (Search Engine Optimization), or hire someone to do this for you if you have the funds. Decide if you'll advertise your site on pay-per-click search engines. Make sure you understand how much you may make per sale, how many visitors it takes to make a sale and how much you are willing to spend.

Keep in mind, this all takes time. Few affiliates can just put up banners and make any serious money. It takes work to be successful and it takes time. Treat your home based affiliate business like any business, be dedicated and work hard. Yes, affiliate programs earn cash if you work hard at it and stay committed. Find reputable affiliate programs and don't just look for the highest paying affiliate programs. Good luck!
